The Southern Lepidopterists' Society's Annual John Abbot AwardThe award is named for John Abbot (1751-1840), one of the initial pioneers of studies of Lepidoptera of the southeastern United States. Abbot was an early naturalist, whose paintings and recorded observations provided a number of descriptions of southeastern species. He spent a significant portion of his life in Bulloch County, Georgia during the early nineteenth century, where he made many of his observations. 2005 Winner Lee and Jackie Miller are the 2005 Abbott Award recipients in recognition of their major contributions to the knowledge of lepidoptera in Florida and the Caribbean. More information about the Millers and about the 2005 meeting will appear in the December issue of the news. ![]() Lee Miller, Jeff Slotten, Jacqueline Miller Note: Although anyone can be nominated, only current members of the Southern Lepidopterists' Society may submit a nomination. |
